Stephen Paton moved into Data Technician

I made the decision to transition to a career in the technology sector at the start of 2020. I found full-time, in-person coding boot camps to be prohibitively expensive and the part-time university route to be prohibitively time-consuming (6+ years). IT Career Switch’s full-stack developer coding traineeship offered the perfect alternative – a reasonably priced training route that was completable within 12 months on a part-time basis and allowed me to plan my training around my schedule.

I really enjoyed using the interactive online learning resources. The mini-projects at the end of each topic were a great way to recap what I had learned. My favourite part of the course though had to be the two portfolio projects at the end of the training. They struck the right balance between guidance/freedom where I knew exactly what I was expected to deliver but was given enough creative opportunity to come up with my own solutions to the problems presented. I learned so much during these projects and had a lot of fun doing them.

I couldn’t be happier in my current role. The job offers a lot of opportunities for creative problem solving, and the team I’ve joined has been really welcoming and supportive. As a Data Technician, I primarily provide second-line technical support for the different platforms that my team provides. The requests that come in are very diverse so I’m always learning something new.
