Sean Kennelly's journey

Why did you start the traineeship?

I started the traineeship because I found it hard to gauge what knowledge and experience I needed to be “job-ready”. I also wanted clear goals, progression and an entry into the job market.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed the portfolio projects the most. They were a challenge but I really felt that I was making something worth showing off! It gave me a chance to figure things out myself, which made me confident in my abilities, which helped a lot when it came to interviews.

What's your current role like?

My current role is as a Junior Developer at a Web Design company. We create bespoke CMS’ for clients, featuring their branding and pre-agreed designs, giving them control over their content. Our team Designer hands me designs, which I adapt to our Master template. I use Laravel, HTML and SCSS daily, and many skills I learned from IT Career Switch. I have a hybrid role and when I go to the office sometimes people bring their dogs!
