Pearl Albuquerque's journey
Why did you start the traineeship?
IT has always been a genuine passion of mine, and I wanted to turn that interest into a long-term career. Although I completed a bachelor’s degree in IT, I found it difficult to secure opportunities as a new starter. When I came across this Traineeship, it felt like the perfect way to break into the industry. The structured learning combined with their strong network of partner companies gave me confidence that I’d be much better positioned to land my first role once I completed the course.
What did you enjoy most?
I really appreciated the flexibility of the programme. Being able to study at my own pace was essential because I was working while completing the course. The prerecorded lectures were clear, detailed, and covered everything I needed – often going beyond the basics. The quizzes and learning materials also made studying much more effective and helped reinforce my understanding along the way.
What's your current role like?
I’m currently working as a Data Centre Service Engineer. My day typically involves responding to client tickets, which can include tasks such as swapping out disks, running fibre cables, performing routine site checks, and handling various hardware or network-related issues. It’s a very hands-on role, and it’s helped me strengthen my technical, troubleshooting, and operational skills.
