Matthew Turner moved into Service Desk Engineer

I started the Traineeship as I had completed my Masters degree in a separate subject but had not been able to find a job within this field. It made me question what technical skills I really have to offer to future employers and made me consider a fresh start in a new field such as IT in which there is always much to learn every day. I wanted to undertake this challenge of starting anew and prove to myself that I could enter the field of IT despite never having a background within it.

The part I enjoyed most about the Traineeship was always learning something new every day and gaining confidence when after studying and revising a certain area when I realised that I had understood what was being taught. I like how we started from the basics and built up, allowing someone new to IT such as myself to grow in my knowledge and slowly develop my understanding. I also really enjoyed the LiveLabs which gave me hands on experience of what we had learnt throughout the courses and allow me to demonstrate my understanding.

I currently work as an IT Service Desk Engineer whereby I receive calls from customers who have IT issues and resolve these issues while providing friendly customer service. The knowledge I have gained on my course with IT Career Switch has really given me the confidence to handle these calls and help solve the issues the customers face. As this is my first IT job, the experience gained through the LiveLabs on the course has been vital in allowing me to settle into my job and become an effective team member.
