Matthew Sharp moved into Assistant IT Engineer

I started the Traineeship as I realised out of university that I didn’t wish to embark on a career within the course that I had studied. IT was something that I wish I had given a chance and so the traineeship with a guaranteed job offer suited me perfectly to break into an exciting new career path.

I enjoyed learning about the vast variety of topics within IT and accumulating knowledge as and when it suited me – the flexibility and ease of online learning helped me go at a pace that allowed me to enjoy learning the topics. Access to a personal tutor was also there if I had any questions. Jade, my recruitment consultant, was very supportive in a process that I was not familiar with and has helped tremendously with sourcing relevant jobs and answering any and every query I’ve had with insightful detail as well as keeping me informed on any progress made with my applications – I highly recommend her!

My current role is absolutely ideal for me – my job title is “ICT support assistant”. I will be starting an apprenticeship paid for by the company I now work for alongside my role which will help me apply my knowledge to a variety of real world scenarios, track my progress and get me another relevant IT qualification. It has only been a week since starting my new role and I’ve configured lots of equipment that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on in an environment that allowed me to pick others’ brains about anything – It’s been another cool learning experience getting practical with the knowledge in a variety of environments such as conference rooms, schools and offices.
