Jason Sharples's journey
Why did you start the traineeship?
I was frustrated with the career path that I was on, I worked previously in Sales and never felt it was my calling but with a very limited experience with coding in the past I knew it was something that I would enjoy and could commit to in the long term, especially with the opportunity to progress and never stop learning.
What did you enjoy most?
I enjoyed the projects where you see all of your studies come together; it’s your first real glimpse into the cohesive whole of full stack development from conception to deployment in practical terms, especially in getting proper feedback that gives a good sense of what industry standards should look like. There is a lot to learn when it comes to coding so you must put the time in to learn, but building programs of increasing complexity really makes it a lot of fun whilst you do so.
What's your current role like?
It’s great, I work at a company that manufactures water analysis systems so there is a lot to get stuck into in the short and long term. Presently I am helping to maintain and develop their in-house employee portal which means I’m learning new frameworks and familiarizing myself with their code base.
