Gundars Kronkrasts's journey

Why did you start the traineeship?

My initial interest in undergoing this Traineeship came soon after I graduated from university. After graduation, I wanted to get into the Aviation industry as a Risk Analyst and Systems Support Specialist, and although I landed interviews, a first class bachelor’s degree wasn’t enough for these positions. These positions required additional qualifications and experience in the industry, which I did not have. After numerous failures, I decided to look for courses that would help me to make steps towards a career change. Soon enough, I came across IT Career Switch, which offered a qualification/s, CV and interview assistance, and offered a job guarantee in a field of my interest.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed the Traineeship as it offered flexibility, meaning that you can complete the course whenever you please within a year’s time. I was able to do a full-time job and do the courses in my spare time.

What's your current role like?

I started my new role – Fire Safety Risk Assessor at the beginning of August 2025. It was a true pleasure to be selected for this role, as this was initially what my IT Career Switch advisor and I were aiming for. Although it took some time to find the role, I am really happy with it. It allowed me to change my personal lifestyle. I am currently under training, yet so far the colleagues and the organisation have been very welcoming.
