Declan Raath's journey

Why did you start the traineeship?

I started the Traineeship because I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the world of computers and the internet. Growing up I moved around a lot, so most of my life was based online. Naturally, I grew a passion for the industry, and this seemed like the right opportunity for me to deep dive into the technical world.

What did you enjoy most?

The thing I enjoyed most about the traineeship was how it was not only reading and watching videos to learn, but it was interactive as well. Personally being able to do these things myself gives me a much better understanding of the concept, so all the interactive activities aided that a lot. They also made it a lot easier to visualize what was happening by being able to see and do these things myself.

What's your current role like?

In my current role, I work as technical support for satellite communication systems on marine vessels. It’s complex, fast-paced, and I get to work with a great support team by my side, everything I was looking for in an IT job.
