Clare Parkes's journey

Why did you start the traineeship?

I had spent 15 years as a secondary science teacher and wanted a change that allowed me more flexibility but was still interesting and challenging. I had done a lot of free online coding courses but wanted to commit to a structured programme that would result in a job. I also needed a course where I could continue working and fit in family commitments too which it career switch allowed me to do.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed working on the projects the most as I got to apply what I had learned to make two full stack web apps that I would never have imagined being able to do when I started the course. Also getting feedback from the tutors at this point was really interesting.

What's your current role like?

It’s interesting, I have learned so much already and am learning more every day. A lot of the work involves solving problems in a team which I enjoy. Also, the people are great and the role is very flexible which allows me to fit in with my family too!
