Why did you start the Cyber Security Traineeship?

I was in the Adult Social Care sector before, working with victims of crime and mental health services. It was rewarding but taxing; I had to commit or to switch. Tech has always been my interest, ever since I was taking radios apart as a kid. After the WannaCry ransom attack occurred and affected me when I was still in Adult Social Care, I developed an interest in computer security. The traineeship allowed me to develop real experience and qualifications to complete this pivot, while I was still working.

What did you enjoy most?

Challenging myself to be a student again. The traineeship was flexible so much that I could work full time and still study and complete the course. Learning how to properly learn again was a great developmental challenge for me.

What's your current role like?

I work for the service delivery team for an MSP (Managed Service Provider). This is different from being part of an in-house service desk, as my company are essentially the service desk for multiple different companies at once. It’s intense but rewarding, as I have to learn multiple systems and various IT Infrastructures; it’s a great variety with many different tools and methods I get to learn.
