Benjamin Drake moved into Technical Support Advisor

I wanted to pivot into an industry that would see sustained demand in the future, in addition to significant opportunity. At the time, I lacked any avenues or previous skills to move into an IT/Cyber Security role, so naturally the traineeship provided an excellent option to achieve this.

I enjoyed the fact that you are provided with far more courses than you are examined on; although I now have CompTIA A+ certificates, I have learned extensively from the course material for the Network+, Security+ and the Cicso CCNA. This additional study has allowed me to rapidly integrate into my new job, as the additional study has plugged more gaps in my knowledge. Secondly, the live labs component of my training has allowed me to get first-hand experience PRIOR to getting into the industry.

My current role is as a technical support adviser, for a managed service provider. I diagnose, report and rectify faults and issues on business and residential networks and LAN equipment. It can be very fast-paced at times, but it is rewarding; we can get businesses back online and trading after trouble strikes. In the short time since joining, I have been exposed to a variety of new skills and information. I have become technically acquainted with equipment from an unfamiliar vendor, I have become adept at the use of proprietary and vendor-neutral remote monitoring systems, and I have had many chances to apply what I have learned in the course and many chances to learn something new. I am happy here, always growing. Thank you guys, my only regret is not finding you sooner….
