Why did you start the traineeship?
Bartending, while good for social interaction and beverage knowledge, did not have the greatest of career prospects. Slaving away for hours on end, serving customers that border on belligerent, only to get a chance of slightly higher than minimum wage, is not what I’d call an opportunity for growth. So, I began my journey into IT, with a data-science course that led nowhere. Then I found IT Career Switch, with a job guarantee.
What did you enjoy most?
The lectures were in-depth, especially the Security+, Network+, and A+ courses. Having access to all of the courses, including course information such as the duration and outline, helped in manage my time, and cross-referenced personal notes. The Live Labs also greatly helped in contextualizing some of the information within the courses.
What's your current role like?
Working as a Staging Technician has been a great experience; while I’m still doing some heavy lifting, I’ve picked up some valuable skills that can be utilized in both my personal tech care and future roles. While this role is not where I intended to be, the Traineeship has equipped me with the knowledge to pursue other qualifications and a way into an industry that is far more interesting.
