Kristian Greenwood's journey
Why did you start the traineeship?
I started the Traineeship because I needed a change from my last career and cyber security really started to stand out to me when I was looking for what careers I could pursue. However, I didn’t know where to begin or how to have the most success when applying for roles which was made more difficult from being on the autistic spectrum. That’s when I came across IT Career Switch where I could work at my own pace within reason, gain the necessary qualifications to be able to obtain the role, as well as receiving the support I needed to have success in my job search.
What did you enjoy most?
What I enjoyed most about the Traineeship was my tutor and recruitment mentor, who were really great to me, helped me to succeed in my interview and really empathised with me regarding the challenges I faced, as well as being able to work at my own pace.
What's your current role like?
My current role is varied and challenging but is just the right amount of challenging for me to be able to learn, grow and develop without feeling overwhelmed. I am currently training as a first line IT support engineer and will shortly be embarking on the second stage of my course in cyber security which I’m looking forward to. My colleagues and my line manager are really great, supportive, patient and understanding towards me and I couldn’t ask for better. I already feel well at home in my new role in which I mainly help other staff within the business with ensuring they have the IT equipment and software they need to carry out their roles as well as resolving any technical problems they might have.
