Kieron Dolan's journey
Why did you start the traineeship?
I started the traineeship because I wanted to transition into a career in health and safety. I had a strong interest in the field but lacked the formal qualifications and structured learning to break into the industry. The traineeship provided a clear pathway, offering recognised certifications like the NEBOSH National General Certificate and practical skills to build a strong foundation. Given my previous experience managing teams and handling customer relations, I saw health and safety as a natural next step that would allow me to combine my leadership skills with a proactive approach to workplace safety.
What did you enjoy most?
What I enjoyed most was the structured learning and the ability to gain industry-recognised qualifications at my own pace. The NEBOSH National General Certificate was particularly rewarding because it provided in-depth knowledge that I could immediately apply in real-world scenarios. I also appreciated the flexibility of online study, which allowed me to balance my learning with other commitments. Completing the traineeship gave me the confidence to apply for roles, knowing I had a solid foundation in health and safety.
What's your current role like?
I’m currently working with GeoAccess as a Trainee HSEQ Advisor, primarily within the rail industry. My role involves assisting with risk assessments, site inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role is hands-on and dynamic, allowing me to apply the knowledge I gained during my traineeship while continuing to develop my expertise in a highly regulated sector.
