Why did you start the traineeship?

I undertook my initial traineeship with IT Career Switch, as they had good reviews and a solid reputation. This first period enabled me to gain the knowledge and skills to be an IT technician. The cyber security traineeship was a logical next step, as it enabled me to develop my security knowledge and skills further by obtaining CySA+. During this training, I developed an interest in network security and also studied for the CCNA qualification which I currently hold.

What did you enjoy most?

My first role in technical support gave me a solid grounding in IT. Progressing to my current network engineer role was a steep learning curve, but made easier by having studied CCNA and CySA+, given I now do a lot of firewall work and network device hardening.

What's your current role like?

I love working in my current role as I get to apply all that I have learned. The experience I have gained and will continue to gain will enable me to further develop my career to specialise in network security.
