Amalina Francis's journey

Why did you start the traineeship?

I started the Traineeship because I wanted to gain hands-on experience and bridge the gap between my academic knowledge and real-world application. I was looking for a structured environment where I could learn from experienced professionals, develop key skills, and explore different areas of the industry to better understand where I can add the most value. It’s also a great step toward my long-term goal of building a successful career in Cybersecurity.

What did you enjoy most?

What I enjoyed most about the Traineeship was being exposed to real-world IT challenges. I especially liked working as part of a team to analyse potential threats and learn how incidents are detected, investigated, and resolved. Every day was a chance to build my knowledge to understand how IT works. It was exciting to apply what I’d learned in a practical setting and see the importance of protecting data and infrastructure.

What's your current role like?

I currently work as an IT Field Engineer at SCC, where I hold an accredited HP Engineer Certification. My role involves hands-on responsibility for managing ticketing systems, diagnosing and troubleshooting both hardware and software issues, and providing technical support directly to end users. I regularly rebuild laptops, install, repair, and replace computer components, and ensure systems are running efficiently on-site.
