Paul Thyer
Job Before: PR/IT Manager
Job Now: Service Desk Analyst @ BT Enterprise
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I was working at a small-medium sized business and became the ‘go-to’ guy to fix all IT-related issues with the exception of larger server issues but felt stuck in a rut working mostly on my own and wanted to work in an enterprise environment focusing more on Cyber security.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I had access to industry-level training. It gave me confidence knowing I was learning the skills the industry was looking for and validation when I passed my CompTIA A+ exams.
What's your current role like?
I am part of a team that supports almost 10,000 users and almost 18,000 devices in an enterprise environment. I feel like I have landed on my feet at BT and am lucky to be surrounded by incredibly smart, supportive, and friendly people. The environment feels like it changes at the speed of light, one minute I am taking calls relating to a small individual impact like a network connectivity issue the next we are dealing with a major company-wide incident. Every day I come across something I have never seen before. Literally, every day is a learning day. I am also learning a lot with the MS Cloud environment Azure Active Directory, Exchange and Intune. It is surprisingly exhausting work problem-solving flat out all day but It fuels the soul, it’s rewarding and I really enjoy my job. I am in the early stages of my Cyber Security Training and am excited about where this will take me.
