Job Before: Student
Job Now: Python DevOps Engineer @ Raymarine
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I wanted to change careers, having recently graduated with an MSc in aerospace engineering. During the coding elements of my course, I realised that my ambition was to develop software solutions to real-world problems. After researching online I found the traineeship was able to provide me with the skills in a range of technologies and additional project experience I needed to secure an excellent first job.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
As someone who embraces technical challenges, completing the two showcase projects tested the knowledge I had gained in the past year as well as my ability to pick up new skills quickly. With expert tuition, I was able to produce high-quality web applications which made a great impression at the interview. I found developing and improving new software really satisfying.
What's your current role like?
As a Python DevOps Engineer, I am required to learn new technology quickly to develop new features and fix bugs in the existing codebase. I am really enjoying the steep learning curve and have excellent mentors who really value me as an employee. I am now working on exciting projects using various programming languages on Windows and Linux machines, including automation software, bots and web applications which will improve how the other engineers carry out their work.
