Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship because I was made redundant from my previous retail role. I’d been struggling to find career direction over the past few years and the thing that really stood out to me about IT was the fact that the field is so wide-ranging, and if you are willing, there is always more to learn. I realised my service background would come in useful for a First Line Support role, so it just naturally seemed like a good fit.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I most enjoyed the live labs section of the course because I’m generally a more practical learner and this gave me the opportunity to put into action the theory I’d learned over the previous months. More generally I enjoyed being in a situation where I was learning something new every day since it had been a while since I was in education or studying.
What's your current role like?
My current role is really varied which is something I really wanted from my first IT role. I’ve gotten a lot of hands-on experience fixing hardware and software issues; both in-person and remote via phone or e-mail. I work as part of a smaller tight-knit team of people who are really helpful in pushing my development beyond the parameters of the A+.
