Job Before: Career Break

Job Now:  Junior Project Manager @ MerMer

Jamie-Rao

Course:  Project Management Traineeship
Placement Date: March 2023

Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the Traineeship as I was feeling more and more dissatisfied with my previous job as a teacher. Although I enjoyed being in the classroom, the nature of the job had changed significantly from when I started teaching in 2008. There were aspects of my role as a teacher that I found engaging and when I compared these to other career paths, project management was at the top of the list. Organisation, communication, time management and planning are skills that I used in teaching and are the cornerstone of project management.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I enjoyed the challenge of the traineeship – learning something new and challenging myself. The traineeship offered a range of different modules that would prove useful in different industries. I hadn’t done much math since school and that was one of the harder parts of the traineeship but the materials and teaching in the videos explained how to complete the formulae and equations etc. By the end of the course, I was confident in the knowledge and practices for a role in project management.
What's your current role like?
I secured a junior project management position with an EV charging company, that installs electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It’s an exciting role, not only because it’s my first project management role but because it is in an evolving industry. There are plenty of opportunities to apply the knowledge gained from the traineeship. I’m excited to learn more and carve out my career in project management.
