Course:  IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: September 2022

Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship because I always wanted to have a career in tech in general, but never really knew where to start. A culmination of my not having a lot of opportunities, and a lack of understanding of what it was I actually wanted to do career-wise, led me to study a degree that I didn’t really enjoy; leading to me further disliking my career opportunities after graduating. I spent a year working in the civil service before I took the chance to get back into education and study for this traineeship.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The traineeship offered a lot of things that I found very desirable – most notably the price vs. a degree. However, the most enjoyable aspect was how fluid it was – I could set my own pace, and work through things in my own time. Thankfully I was out of work at the time, which enabled me to complete the work faster than I would have done otherwise. That being said, it is structured in such a way that it could be easily done while in full-time work.
What's your current role like?
My current role is great – it’s an entry-level position that would normally be filled by a computer science graduate. I am still very much learning on the job, as any person would – no matter the experience. There is only so much a certification can teach you, and there is no replacement for experience. Having said that, the certifications this course has afforded me have allowed me to get my foot in the door and progress with my career. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone that can commit the time and money towards it. From my own experience, after completing my studies and beginning my job search, I found it scarily easy to get into interviews with prospective employers. I even found myself in the position of deciding between 3 job offers from different companies!
