Dominykas Valys
Job Before: Field Services Engineer
Job Now: IT Support Engineer @ Urban Network
Why did you start the Traineeship?
My previous career aspirations were revolved around a passion of mine which was internal combustion engines. After pursuing university degrees and gaining automotive engineering experience I realised that the position I am looking for is not only exceptionally hard to get but would also require me to do work that would not be related to my passion. At this point, I realised that I needed to find a profession that would be as interesting as the automotive field. I always had an interest in IT because it is a field that shadows everything we do nowadays. After some research, I found IT Career Switch and decided to take on the Cyber Security course.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I enjoyed LiveLabs the most because they gave me hands-on challenges to apply the theory I studied. At this point, I realised that IT is the right path for me. It is impossible to apply theoretical knowledge in Automotive Engineering as easily as it is in IT. Here you can research a field of interest learn some code and apply it straight away. I was always a technical, hands-on type of person which is why this part of the traineeship was most enjoyable for me.
What's your current role like?
My current roles responsibilities are as wide as the traineeship. As we are Managed service provider (MSP) I am being trained to resolve any IT related issues a customer might encounter. The colleagues here are great and we have a fantastic hybrid approach to working from home and the office. I should have taken this path a long time ago!
