Jamie-Rao

Course:  Cyber Security Traineeship
Placement Date: June 2023

Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started a traineeship as I was unhappy in my old career. I enjoyed the work but it was not family friendly or worth the salary. I needed to change to something with more sociable hours. After doing some research I thought it would be a smart move to move towards ICT. The amount of jobs available and the generous salaries attracted me to this area. Thesis when I contacted IT career switch.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

I enjoyed the end the best. Obtaining the official CompTIA qualification was a really good feeling. After this, I really liked participating in interviews for my first IT role. The Recruitment team with IT career switch are first class in finding you jobs and then providing you with everything you need to be successful in the interview. I had learned so much in a short period of time and felt confident being asked technical questions and speaking over and above what I was being asked about. In under 3 months, I went from knowing nothing to having a good foundational knowledge of IT.

What's your current role like?
My current role is not what I excepted. I had learned so much but every company uses their own unique software/systems and there is always learning to be done. As an IT Support Technician, I am yet to experience a tough issue. Most issues can be fixed in under a minute. There is a lot of job satisfaction when you fix an issue and the user is very happy with how quickly and efficiently you did it. IT technician role is not hard and can be enjoyable. I am excited to push on with my Cybersecurity learning and progress even more in the world of IT.
