Jamie-Rao

Course:  IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: July 2022

Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship after getting to a point in both my career and my life where I was tired of not having a job I neither enjoyed nor had an interest in. IT had always been a sort of “hobby” growing up, building my own computers and fixing things but I had never followed that up with a qualification either in school or further education. The traineeships flexibility, structure and all-in-one package gave me the confidence and security to finally gamble on myself and earn a relevant qualification.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I really liked the structure and how things were laid out, being able to refer to the notes on the slides from the videos was very helpful. The extra learning/revision activities were great for when you were travelling just to help reinforce terms/meanings of things. Being able to practice in a virtual environment was extremely useful as I was able to carry some of that practical experience and be prepared for what I would face in my job!
What's your current role like?
Awesome! I work as an IT Service Desk Analyst for the Royal Horticultural Society, everyone is super lovely and I’m having a great time in my first IT role supporting end users amongst a variety of other things! Being the biggest gardening charity in the UK I get to work on various shows and events throughout the year I.e Chelsea Flower Show, setting up networks/computers and the like! My day could consist of taking calls, fixing problems for users on-site or supporting them from home, building equipment (phones/laptops etc) going to other sites around the UK and helping out. I am having an absolute blast and it is SO refreshing to be doing something I enjoy and have an interest in!
