Why did you start the Traineeship?
I have started this traineeship as I lost my job during the second lockdown. This has put my life into perspective. I wanted to get away from retail and I always loved playing around with IT equipment and gadgets, problem-solving and always improving my kit at home. It seemed like a natural thing to progress to. IT career offers a lot more as a bonus – better work-life balance, potential to work from home, and a non-linear career path (in my old career I would just be a manager of the higher rank whereas in IT I can just get some knowledge in other areas and still progress), better salary and it would be something that I enjoy doing
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The most enjoyable part about the traineeship was the practical side as I learn better by doing than just watching or reading. I also liked that the traineeship overprepared me so I had no reason to fail this certification. Also, IT traineeship assisting with career search afterwards is just a cherry on top. I literally got my first invite to interview hours after I spoke to my career advisor.
What's your current role like?
Currently, I work for a company specialising in cloud service. My role is a mix of office and work from home. Everyone is very welcoming and I really enjoy myself now. I could not say the same about my old career. It is lots of fun and I have met some really great people already and I am learning yet a lot more. All the time I am there I feel like this is a dream and it is too good to be true. But it is true and I am glad I took a leap of faith and went through with my traineeship
