Why did you start the Traineeship?
During my university studies, I had a module dedicated to cybersecurity. I found that module to be the most enjoyable, and frankly, it was the module where I would always get consistently high marks. It led me to realise my enjoyment of cyber security and I wanted to pursue it further. I decided on an IT Career Switch as they offered not only theory but also practical elements in the course, as well as a job guarantee.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The traineeship is split into two sections, with the first preparing you for a role in helpdesk IT, and the second in cybersecurity once you have some experience under your belt. Due to that, you can see what you learn in the traineeship, can be applied directly to your workplace.
What's your current role like?
My current role is challenging and rewarding. Due to the vast amount of IT and engineering exposure, I can apply both levels of hardware and software development in a constant setting. For example, needing to know how to quickly resolve corrupt user profiles, or fixing a hard drive failure. All this and more needs to be done under strict SLA times. Because of this, it’s not only about understanding the issue, you’ll need to diagnose and fix the problem- oftentimes together.
