Why did you start the Traineeship?
I wasn’t happy with the prospects or earnings in my current career and so felt I needed to retrain in a new field. I chose IT because of the increasing demand/ opportunities in various sectors and my interest in technology. While searching for suitable courses I came across IT Career Switch and the IT Technician Traineeship on offer seemed perfect for me.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I liked the fact that I could work my way through the course at my own pace around my full time job. I also enjoyed putting my new knowledge into practice in the hands on labs.
What's your current role like?
Only 3 weeks after passing my CompTIA A+ exams I got my first interview, was successful, and started the following week. I work at Keyteach as a Junior IT Support Engineer. In my new role I’ve spent most of my time working with VMware preparing virtual environments for end users, setting up and managing servers, and dealing with help desk tickets. There’s been a lot to absorb and still lots to learn but it is very interesting and enjoyable.
