Chandler Dean
Job Before: Administrator
Job Now: IT Technician @ Foreman Homes Limited
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the Traineeship because I was unfulfilled in my old role as an administrator and I realised it was time for a career change, so I took a month or so to really have a think about what I’m passionate about and as you can guess it was computers and technology in general so I hope this is only the start of what I can achieve.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
What I enjoyed most about the Traineeship was the flexibility so I could complete it at my own pace and fit it around my busy schedule so I didn’t have to sacrifice my life in order to complete this but the fact you had to complete it in under a year still meant there was a timed pressure to keep you driving forward. Also, the practice Labs were really beneficial for me as I learn more from doing what we had been taught, so that really helped to cement the months of learning prior to that, and it was exciting to be putting what we learnt into action. Finally, the practice exams were probably the most helpful for me out of anything we did, and my tutor was incredibly helpful with this by providing me with resources when I wanted more variety of questions to help test my knowledge as much as possible.
What's your current role like?
My current Role as an IT Technician is incredibly varied at the moment, as there are only 2 of us on the entire IT team, so I am in charge of our IT tickets, setting up new employees and cancelling them down for when they leave and setting up desks. Printers mobile phones and VOIP support, the network as I access our firewall daily to make sure we have had no unauthorised access or attempts into our network, the day to day employee office queries when they have an issue with their computer and as the business is a construction company I have to go to new build sites to check in with the site managers to make sure their tech is still okay and to see if they need anything else.
