Beth McGuinness IT Career Switch
Course: Project Management Traineeship
Placement Date: June 2025
Why did you start the Traineeship?
After being an Employment Project Lead, I became very interested in a Project Management career. I love the diversity of the role, from daily duties to carrying a project from start to finish. I love being a part of change and development, and this course gave me the opportunity to learn from home and to gain real experience with the projects at the end. I was so scared of the exams, but the course was intensive, and I learned everything I needed to pass both on my first try!
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I most enjoyed the human side of project management. I am fascinated by team building, the art of persuasion, and how to understand success and what different peopleโ€™s interpretations of it are. I also loved the projects at the end – it was so much fun to put everything into practice and get a taster of what jumping into a project is like.
What's your current role like?
I am loving my new job. I have jumped in the deep end, but I am learning every second of every day and bringing in so much I learned from the course. Itโ€™s amazing to have built confidence in key project management processes and tools from the course, so I can bring them into my work to help deliver projects successfully. Not only is the job great, but itโ€™s in my dream field – working for the public and local communities to make a better Brighton & Hove. My team is all so kind and supportive; I feel like I have hit gold. The work has been so worth it. Thank you!
