Simon Jaynes
Job Before: Supervisor
Job Now: Technical Support Consultant @ CaseWare UK Limited
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship as my current role at the time had run its course and I had learnt all I could. I wanted a change in my career path and have always had good IT knowledge. Having looked at the best way to get into the IT industry the traineeship seemed the best option. It would provide me with all the knowledge needed to get an entry-level job and also being able to gain a professionally recognised qualification at the end of the traineeship was definitely something that made it stand out from its competitors.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The traineeship was really well structured and the course ran in a logical order going from the basic knowledge to in the end gaining a more in-depth knowledge of the things previously learned about.
The learning material was really well laid out and the ability to carry out practical activities to further the learning was a real highlight.
The ability to gain a professional qualification was an added bonus!
My tutor Leigh was always ready to help and provide further material when needed and responded to emails very promptly!
What's your current role like?
My current role is as a Technical Support Consultant for a company called CaseWare. They provide accounting software for a range of clients and I am the first port of cool for the support network provided. I currently respond to clients via email, telephone or an online chat platform. As part of the onboarding I carried out their training program to learn the software but my traineeship has really helped to give me the skills required to support the clients and help with any problems that occur with the software but also with their laptops/computers themselves.
