Lewis Crampton
Job Before: Census Field Officer
Job Now: Desktop Support Engineer @ Wren Kitchens
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship because I wanted to jump into something brand new. I’d never considered a career in IT before, but IT Career Switch provided the opportunity to experience a wide variety of topics and served as a great introduction to a fresh career path.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
What I enjoyed most was the feeling that I was learning new, valuable knowledge on a daily basis, which was tested regularly throughout the traineeship. It gave a real sense of progression, while also catering for people previously inexperienced in IT like me. By the end, I felt I had a good understanding of a broad range of topics that have been useful to know in the job I was later placed in – and just a couple of months before, I was useless at anything digital!
What's your current role like?
I am currently a 2nd Line Desktop Support Engineer. I am part of a team that supports the entire manufacturing, customer service and retail infrastructure of the company, physically troubleshooting and fixing issues that users face on a daily basis. These issues range from quick fixes to long, complicated scenarios, but I feel well equipped after my training and I enjoy learning more every single day.
