Course: IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: May 2021

Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started my traineeship as I’ve always had a passion for computers but lacked enough interest during the sixth form to take it up as a subject. My true ambition was to join the Royal Marines but couldn’t due to my poor left eye sight. I have family who works in IT and always found it interesting when they spoke about their jobs so it only felt natural to peruse computers as I also love a challenge. As I researched more I became more drawn to cyber security and then came across the traineeship.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The part I enjoyed the most about the traineeship was learning Security +. As I’m most particularly interested in cyber security I was glad to find that security + was the most interesting. Learning many modules of different computing aspects can be tedious but Security was my favourite. I also found that the man who teaches in the Security + videos is good at explaining and teaching, many videos are very vague and lack detail resulting in a fair bit of extra learning from other sources to get a better understanding but Security was taught very well.
What's your current role like?
My current role is at a company called Tech Ahoy! I suppose the role is a real mix of many things like IT technician/ specialist/ support. We have a number of clients in which we provide all of their IT services like networking, device management, software & hardware, support (via tickets), on/off boarding, client site visits, fixing things, VoIP, cameras etc. I absolutely love the job, super relaxed but lots to learn. Everyone I work with has said they’ve never had a better job.
