Job Before: Self-employed
Job Now: Colleague Support Engineer (IT Service Desk) @ Saga plc.
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I’ve always had an interest in technology and computers but never knew how to make it a career. After a job in fast food customer service, and most recently as a Window cleaning business owner for 4 years, I felt like I’d hit a dead end and wanted to do something I was passionate about and that would present further career and learning opportunities. This traineeship seemed like an amazing way to learn new skills and help me get into the IT industry.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The videos were very informative, and the practical training was enjoyable. However what really made the difference to me was the amazing service from my Tutor, Leigh, and my Recruitment specialist, Sarah. They were always so helpful in answering my questions, and in Sarah’s case, keeping me informed on the progress that was being made during the recruitment stage, helping me land an interview within the first 3/4 weeks, and the Cv that was made for me helped me land an interview with the employer I’m with now. I was lucky enough to have 4 interviews (2 first interviews and 2 follow up interviews) with the first 4 weeks.
What's your current role like?
I love my current role. I work as a Colleague Support Engineer for a reputable company based in my hometown, that provides insurance and holidays to over 50s. My job involves providing IT support to the rest of the employees within the company. Although it’s been challenging learning new things and finding my feet, it’s already quickly falling into place and becoming second nature, and I’m part of an amazing team who are always willing and ready to help me learn the ropes in my new role.
