Gentrit Bunjaku IT Career Switch
Course: IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: June 2021
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the IT traineeship because I was not fulfilling my potential at my previous job. I had always had an interest in IT growing up and it made sense for me to progress into a role I enjoyed and saw a future in. After the UK was riddled with a series of lockdowns, I took it upon myself to start the traineeship as I felt this was the best time to really get my head down and study. In a nationally depressing time, I was able to feel like I was doing something useful through the series of in depth and interesting courses by leading industry vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA etc.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
The part I found most enjoyable during the training is the live labs. You are provided with a virtual environment with different operating systems so that you can put the theory into practice. Another good thing about the live labs is that you are set with tasks to complete. These tasks are listed beside the VM so that it’s clear what you have to do and take the required steps to complete the task successfully, but also in a way whereby you are able to retain the information and not just forget after completing it.
What's your current role like?
My current role is very enjoyable. I work for a managed service provider at the service desk level. I am exposed to many different ways of working as the company has many roles integrated within my sphere. I deal with phone calls and issues clients may have and am the first point of contact to either solve or escalate their issues. The training provided by the IT Career switch has been invaluable and I still find myself referring to some of the course material as it was so in-depth and useful.
