Filip Fortuna IT Career Switch
Course: Network Engineer Traineeship
Placement Date: July 2021
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started my Traineeship due to wanting a change of careers. The current lockdown cemented this decision as it posed itself as a perfect opportunity to sit down and focus as I became redundant. The change was on my mind since 2 years ago, as I realised what I studied for in University wasn’t really for me growth-wise and that industry was further affected by the pandemic. IT Career Switch seemed like, was and still is the perfect way for me to study and learn at my own pace in order to back then change, and now advance within my IT career.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I most enjoyed the no-strings-attached way my Traineeship was. I could do everything at my own pace, at any time and anywhere. The tutors were knowledgeable and the videos were well made and concise. Even with things that I struggled with, everything was broken down and explained in such a way that only a couple of tries– and I understood it. Constant contact and quick replies were also a huge positive, as any questions I had were all answered in no time at all.
What's your current role like?
Currently, I am an Assistant Support Analyst for Doosan Digital Innovation Europe- an international corporation that deals with support for and maintenance of computer systems and software catering to engineering as well as nuclear and petrochemical energy solutions. I’m part of a team of 4 application developers, with me dealing with triage and troubleshooting of a wide variety of software, as well as some R&D. A huge chunk of what I learned in my Traineeship is put into practice on a daily basis. I’m enjoying every minute of it and I’m wholeheartedly glad I have taken this traineeship opportunity, as without that knowledge gained, I wouldn’t be able to obtain such a position.
