Chris Campbell
Job Before: Maintenance Technician
Job Now: IT Support Engineer @ Hemmersbach
Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the IT Traineeship due to medical reasons. I was a trained maintenance engineer of 9 years but got diagnosed with Arthritis about 6 years ago leading to a decline in my ability to carry out the tasks I was trained to do. Although I still had a keen troubleshooting mind, I wasn’t able to apply the fixes which lead to a lot of frustration. I decided it would be best to move to a career that is a lot less physically intensive but didn’t put to waste my training as an engineer.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
I most enjoyed the Security part of the Traineeship especially Security+. If it wasn’t expiring just before I passed the A+, I would have probably sat the official exam. There’s a lot of layers to security like understanding how people think, how systems can be comprised and to what reason. It definitely got me excited for a future in Cyber Security.
What's your current role like?
My current role is as an Onsite IT Support Engineer for Hemmersbach soon to be InfoSys. It is a bit more on the physical side than I would prefer but given there was no LiveLabs for Core 1, getting hardware experience has led me to be a more rounded IT professional even if only being in the job for a few months.
