Why did you start the Traineeship?
I started the traineeship as I wanted to work in project management due to the ability it gives you to have a wide view of the creation of something. It’s also a really appealing field due to its prevalence in all industries, meaning you can really go anywhere with it. The traineeship seemed like a perfect opportunity to forge the necessary skills which would allow me to enter the industry. The amount of knowledge contained in the traineeship was exactly what I needed to kickstart this new career path.
What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?
Personally, I enjoyed the practical projects the most due to the glimpse they gave you as to what you could be doing in the future. They were really great to work on to gain hands-on experience and to consolidate my decision that this was right for me. Besides that, the most enjoyable part was definitely the feeling I got when finding out I had passed the official exams at the end of the traineeship, and the ensuing celebrations!!
What's your current role like?
Exciting, rewarding and tough! It’s so fun to see something come together through your management of various aspects of a project, especially as I’m currently working in construction and can literally see the buildings being built! That is a very rewarding experience and makes you feel very proud, however, it definitely comes with its challenges. Things won’t go to plan and problems will crop up and you’ll always be on your feet learning about things you never dreamed of learning about. Although this can be hard sometimes, I think it’s also part of the charm of the role, you’ll always have new challenges to overcome and new skills to learn but I don’t think there’s a better feeling than continuous development even if it can be hard at times!
